When I see a well-designed card, I often wonder how the designer came to it. How does one think up of cool unexpected designs?
Well, in my case I sometimes have a clear vision; designing every single detail in my mind, in which case the execution is fast and easy. Other times the vision is not so clear, and those are the times when I stand in my work area experimenting with different arrangements and colors…ending up making different versions…or completely discarding the whole thing, and sometimes making peace with it. I rarely go in without a vision, because if I do, the product usually ends up in the trash, except in rare case, such as in this card.
The reason I am writing all this is because for this card, the design process was an interesting one for me. Here is how it went.
When I saw this picture in Pinterest, I immediately wanted to case it. And so I did, black/grey background, white tree, and pink star, all of it. But I did not like the card at all! The colors looked great together, but the whole thing was just so cold! And the grey panel in the center was just hideous! I threw it aside, not in the trash, as I had put some time into making it and felt there has to be something to save it.
Later when I saw the new inspiration card at CASE study challenge, I found a way to save the card. “Instead of a panel, use a navy blue polka dot embossed paper for the sky, no, even better; use plain black paper and dot it with a white gel pen!” I was all excited to make the change and ready to work on it when I saw Wida’s card here. I just loved the soft colors in her card and decided to do the same with this card. So finally I chose a light blue color for the sky. As the card at CASE study has patterned paper on the lower third, I wanted to add some texture to the snow, and created the snow banks.
