Ok, so that was a five month break, I know I said I hoped to post more often…but life simply gets busier and busier! (its a good thing in a way?)
So here I am, back from a short blog-hibernation to celebrate Hero Arts’ 45th anniversary!!! I made a card (yes!) with a brand new stamp set that I bought (!!) but before I get to that, let me share a brief encounter from days back.
Before I started blogging, I was a huge fan of Darlene DeVries. I watched every single of her video tutorials (some more than once?) and waited every week for her new video! So one day while scrolling through her blog, I noticed a cute badge on her sidebar. I can’t recall what it said, but it took me to Hero Arts card contest page in flickr (yes flickr! does anyone know what that is anymore? :D) Long story short, I decided to submit a card to their then-current challenge. I made a card, created a flickr account and submitted. This was my very first time submitting a card to a contest. And guess what? I was one of the winners!!! I will let you imagine how amazing that felt! You can view that card here.
Back to my card- I was hoping to make a show-stopper card that was even better than my first winner card, but this is all I could come up with in the half-hour time slot I had to make a card:
I created a textured background by adhering die-cut circles of various sizes to a 4″x5.5″ card base using foam tape. I colored one of the images from the Hang in there Potted Plants stamp set using some alcohol based markers. I cut the image, set it aside, and then embossed one of the sentiments from the set on a strip of black card stock. I adhered the sentiment strip with some glue and foam tape, then popped up the potted plant in place with some additional foam tape.
Even though it didn’t turn out as glamorous as I had hoped, I still like it very much. It has some of my favorite things, and I am thankful for this opportunity to be creative in my busy schedule. Thank you Hero Arts for inspiring creativity in so many budding artists. Happy Anniversary!
